How Solar Farms Work
Solar Farm
Solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity.
Transmission Lines
Power lines move electricity from the solar farm to the substation.
Substation
The substation converts electricity to a lower voltage suitable for consumer use.
Energy Use
Electricity is consumed by homes and businesses.
What Do Solar Development Complexes Look Like?
Solar development complexes are designed to efficiently capture and convert sunlight into electricity through expansive fields of solar panels. These panels generate electricity, which is then transmitted via power lines to a nearby substation. The substation plays a crucial role in converting the high-voltage electricity produced by the solar farm into a lower voltage suitable for consumer use. Depending on the location, these complexes may also include energy storage systems to ensure a consistent power supply.
Community-Minded Development
We invest in the communities where we work, respecting the land and managing each project with the utmost care. Find us at the intersection of decarbonization, affordable energy, social impact and environmental stewardship.
Building Project Across North America
We partner with business owners, landowners and investors to develop projects from coast to coast. Take a look at a sample of our portfolio.
Oberon
We completed the Oberon Solar Facility in Ector County, Texas, on approximately 1,200 acres of privately owned land. Energy from the project is sold into the ERCOT market through an energy hedge agreement with a leading financial institution.
180 megawatts of electricity power from this project powers more than 30,000 homes.
Techren
Located outside of Las Vegas, Techren Solar is one of the largest fully operational solar facilities in the U.S. Contracted under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with Nevada Energy, this 400 MWac project provides clean and competitively priced energy to the greater Las Vegas area.
Laguna
The Laguna Solar Generating Facility sits outside Torreón in Coahuila, Mexico. This 100 MWac solar facility is located on land owned by the project and is the first of multiple solar projects fully developed by 174 Power Global in Mexico.
